A virtual ecosystem built for the emerging Omniverse
In 1985, Richard Garriott coined the term “avatar,” derived from the Hindu expression for the physical expression of a God on Earth. He applied this term to a user’s alter ego character in a video game. In his 1992 book, Snowcrash, Neal Stephenson imagined an internet-like virtual reality world he called “the metaverse.”
Last year, in the one week between Christmas and New Year’s, Apple customers spent $1.8 billion on digital items and services. This was not ordering physical products to be delivered, these were purchases made in-game (Roblox, Fortnite, etc) to be used in-game. In the Metaverse. In the last 12 months, Bitcoin has increased in value by 250%. In the last 5 years, it has increased by 4000%.
The digital world and physical world are now converging in ways foretold in Snowcrash and Ready Player One. Media is ever-more decentralized, persistent, and synchronous; Experiences increasingly span the physical and digital world; Commerce now exists within numerous and varied Metaverses, each offering their own societies and fully functioning economies. While we all signed onto social media platforms, smartphones, connected TVs and meditation apps… Our Virtual and Material Realities have merged into one, massive, often chaotic Extended Reality.
The challenge: There are few organizations designed to harness the power of Extended Reality, to manage the chaos and commerce of the different metaverses, to help consumers and companies navigate the emerging Omniverse. Until now.
DigitalSelf® harnesses Extended Reality to create a harmonious media and commercial experience for people and brands. We solve the chaos of the multiverse and turn chaos into joy.
